Integrated heritage-based economic development in Karnataka is being undertaken as part of the World Bank (WB) - Cities Alliance (CA) - National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), Technical Assistance (TA) for Inclusive revitalisation of historic Cities in India. It aims at supporting the Government of Karnataka in integrated heritage-based urban revitalisation through strategic planning.

Focus group discussions with the community
Leveraging built heritage for development
Living heritage as an inalienable part of the economic strategy
Extensive involvement of the community in participatory planning
One of the several stakeholder consultations
The outcomes of the Technical Assistance are two-fold: First, to evolve strategies to achieve economic development in the historic areas, cities and regions in Karnataka. Second, to propose a multi-scalar and multi-stakeholder institutional and organizational framework towards enhancing the state’s capacities and methodologies for planning, coordination, outreach and implementation of the strategies. Vijayapura, Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal (V-BAP) in the Belagavi division of the state of Karnataka is the pilot region for the proposed strategy.
