The principle strategy for development of the Rajrappa precinct is one of sustainable tourism and destination development. This is expressed in many dimensions spanning several layers. The focus of the sustainable design process is to achieve an aesthetic response to a very complex program that brings together challenges a sacred landscape and visitor management.

Seasonal transitions on the riverbed
Extended fabric of streets
Vibrant food and Prasad stalls
Proposed Prasad stalls
Chinnamasta Shrine
Ritual sacrificial spaces
Well articulated ritual spaces
Amenities responsive to specific user demands
Pedestrain bridge as a transition and a node
Bridge and decks to better appreciate the ghats
Interpretation centre for arts, culture and religion
Overview of the precinct
Context specific interventions along the sacred riverfront
Transport hub as a critical public space
Food courts as informal public spaces
The proposal addresses environmental, social, religious and infrastructural challenges in a balanced manner, while minimizing the ecological footprint of the development. Located in the heart of Jharkhand at the confluence of Bhairavi and Damodar rivers, Rajrappa captures the romance and challenges of sacred landscapes across India. The proposal brings together an ecologically- balanced use of building materials & construction technologies, economically viable solutions and a socially relevant approach to the program.
The project is under the stewardship of the Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand.
